Commentary -- Reunion - Chapter 3, Part 2

This segment continues shortly after the previous segment and follows Tenchi and Ryoko to the hospital.  Most of this segment is dedicated to how Ryoko feels and exploring aspects of her backstory introduced both here and in the previous story.

Tenchi Universe rarely talks about Ryoko's past, except to show her childhood juxtaposed with Ayeka's and to highlight her life as a criminal.  Given that Ryoko had a childhood, unlike the OVA, she would likely have parents.  Considering Washu does not recognize her when they meet in Episode 4, her mother is likely not Washu in Tenchi Universe.

Thus, I am exploring who Ryoko's mother might have been in this continuity.  Dually, we meet Nagi's father, and in his starcrossed relationship with Ryoko's mother, I hope to consider one possible outcome of Tenchi and Ryoko's union.  How would the Jurai royal family react to such a pairing?

Intrinsically tied to this exploration will be Nagi's past.  If she is the offspring of a Juraian nobleman and a Ryoan woman, what would that childhood have been like?  What made her become a bounty hunter?

This segment also starts considering Kamidake's past and integration into the modern era.  As the two knights are akin to Arthurian legend, what have they seen in antiquity?  How are they settling into a new version of their home, when everyone they knew is long dead?  How would their morals differ from those of the current royal family?

All of these are threads I hope to explore in later chapters and stories.
