This segment serves multiple purposes. First, since Katsuhito did not appear in the previous story at all, I wanted to feature him during this return to Jurai. Second, I have wanted to do a character study of the legendary swordsman, and starting a new chapter of the story seemed like a great opportunity to do so.

But, thirdly and perhaps most importantly, I very much wanted to play with Katushito's timeline. As I am drawing primarily from Tenchi Universe, certain events are already fairly well set: Yosho's duel with Kagato, Yosho's romance first with Haruna and later with Itsuki, the journey to Earth, the name change to "Katsuhito". However, Universe says nothing about Yosho's early life, meaning no contradiction arises if I were to adapt Yosho's encounter with Yuzuha from Manatsu no Eve. While I have no plans to utilize the Tree of Darkness in this story, I thought acknowledging her existence would be a pleasant surprise.

Likewise, this segment is the first appearance of Kamiki Seto in the story. She has been mentioned twice before, once by Kiriko during the grand ball and once by Misaki during Tensho's tale. In the spirit of Tenchi Universe, I am taking liberties with her character, portraying her as Misaki's elder sister rather than as her mother like seen in other media. However, as seen here, I intend to retain her great political influence upon the throne of Jurai.

Now, I have plans for Kamiki Seto, which will not come to fruition in this story, but I am hinting at those schemes through her appearances here. Said plans stem from blending together the plots of Tenchi Universe and Tenchi Muyo! in Love 2. In the former, Yosho left Jurai after his battle with Kagato, but the latter states that he left Jurai due to his forbidden love for Haruna. Considering the timeframe, these two events likely were coincident. Moreover, there is a very brief piece of dialogue from Tenchi Muyo! in Love 2, when the knights are telling Sasami about Yosho "forsaking the Juraian royal heiress". I feel there is a "Tale of Four Juraians" waiting to be told here, and I hope for Seto to play an integral role in how that tale unfolds.
